Organize Locally
JOIN THE RACE TO 5 and 9
Counties all over Missouri have begun to recruit Precinct Captains and neighborhood volunteers to hit the streets. We are working in key precincts throughout the state to ID voters, recruit Democrats and maintain a local presence.
Strength In Numbers!
The MDP needs to sign up volunteers to take on local action. We have started out with lofty goals. Our RACE TO 5 and 9 is to recruit 500 Precinct Captains and 900 Neighborhood Volunteers in the coming months. 5 and 9 also represents the best hours during the week to canvass and call between and we want to maintain that 5 to 9 presence every week in every year in every election season.
Joining the fight does not simply mean sitting at home. We will train all of our volunteers in the art of organizing and work to ensure that we are out of our homes and into the streets. By next year we will have Democrats trained in every key precinct in Missouri ready to claim Victory. Precinct Captains are the most important piece of this project. Below are the commitments that Precinct Captains must make. If you are willing to dedicate yourself to Democratic Victory, sign up below and we will relay your information to your county leaders and they will contact you.
Being A Precinct Captain
Precinct Captains are the face of the Democratic Party on the most local level. A Precinct Captain is in charge of directing voter contact in their precinct. Ideally, a PC and their team will get to know every voter in their precinct and identify them.
Once there is a Party ID associated with voters, we can begin to learn more about them and target messages for their issues. The following outlines the specific commitments a Precinct Captain must make.
As a MDP Precinct Captain I will agree to:
Attend a training for PCs to go over the specifics of organizing a precinct, dividing neighborhoods (turf management), recruiting volunteers and training new activists
Work to identify all voters in my precinct
Recruit a team of volunteers from friends, family and activists to assist me in my efforts
Plan specific events in coordination with my County Committee to identify voters in my precinct and recruit new volunteers
Have constant activity including canvasses and phone banks for people to take part in
Oversee the data input for all canvass results back into the MDP Voter File (or designating a computer friendly volunteer to manage data input)
Become a Neighborhood Volunteer
If you are unable to be a Precinct Captain, but wish to assist the efforts of precinct organizing in your area sign up to be a Neighborhood Volunteer and a Precinct Captain or local Democrat will follow up with you.
