MEMORANDUM
TO: The Hard-working People of
Missouri FR: Missouri Democratic Party RE: Blunt Continues
To Take Missouri in the Wrong Direction
It's summer time and we know
many of you have been on vacation during these past couple
weeks. So here's a quick look at what Matt Blunt tried to sneak
by you while you were spending time with your family:
Blunt Makes
Devastating Health Care Cuts Permanent
As you know, Matt Blunt
slashed the health care of more than 400,000 Missourians in
2005. And now there are more than 70,000 fewer children covered
than when Matt Blunt took office. Last week, Blunt signed a bill
into law that made these massive cuts permanent. Needless to
say, this is a major step backwards for our
state.
Some news coverage of the signing:
Matt Blunt: A
"Scared Incumbent"
Political observers, reporters and
scholars are taking notice: Matt Blunt is running scared.
His policies are unpopular. His
priorities are wrong. He's been taking Missouri backwards for
three years. Already identified as the most vulnerable incumbent
governor in the nation, Matt Blunt is resorting to desperate
political attacks to divert attention away from his failures in
office.
A recent Kansas City Star
article catalogued the political attacks that Blunt is
launching from the Governor's office and a local political
science professor called it out for what it is:
George Conner, a professor at
Missouri State, said Blunt is running as a "scared incumbent"
and that it "appears that Governor Blunt isn't as secure in his
incumbency as other governors might be at this point in their
career."
That says it all.
A Nutty Vision
for Missouri's Future
"Developing better nuts is great,
but I’m more interested in finding a cure for
cancer." That's what Senator Chuck Graham had to say about
Matt Blunt's
latest plan to pour millions of taxpayer dollars into nut
trees. This
money was supposed to be invested in state of the art life
sciences projects, which would have created thousands of
high-paying jobs and made Missouri a national leader in
biotechnology.
Instead, Matt Blunt sided with his
extreme fringe base, obstructing the future of biomedical
research. By blocking a critical opportunity for
Missouri to discover cures for diseases like Alzheimers and
cancer, Matt Blunt shows once again how his radical vision
for our future can only be described
as: nuts.
Behold the Mighty
Missouri Crayfish
Having already signed important
legislation to name an official state grass and an official
state reptile, Matt Blunt turned his attention two weeks ago to
one the state's most urgent problems: the absence of an official
state invertebrate.
So last week, amid much fanfare,
Matt Blunt named the crayfish as the official state invertebrate
-- ending months of speculation and
anticipation.
This is just the latest example of
Blunt's wrong priorities moving Missouri in the wrong
direction.
