MEMORANDUM
TO: The Hard-working People of
Missouri FR: Missouri Democratic Party RE: Blunt Continues To Take Missouri in the Wrong Direction
Matt
Blunt: End of Session Report Card
Last Friday, the 2007
legislative session came to an end -- and once again, Matt Blunt used the
session as an opportunity to put the needs of his political allies ahead of
regular Missouri families, taking our state further backwards.
Blunt made permanent his
disastrous health care cuts, sold our higher education loan program to his
developer friends, and meanwhile, the state's unemployment rate remains
among the worst in the nation and our economy continues to lag. Simply put,
Matt Blunt's wrong priorities are taking Missouri in the wrong
direction.
Instead of parading around
the state holding press conferences, perhaps Matt Blunt should use the next
few weeks to explain to the people of Missouri why 121,000 children still
don't have health insurance and a college education is further out of reach
for more families. The people of Missouri deserve a leader who will find
creative solutions to the state's problems, not creative ways to appease
the special interests.
By any measure, Matt Blunt
gets a failing grade from the people of Missouri.
Read what the state's leading
newspapers had to say about Matt Blunt's failed legislative session:
MOHELA Plan:
Will Blunt Side with Missouri Families or Sign Misguided Bill?
Two weeks ago, the Republican
led Missouri House passed a bill to take millions from MOHELA, the agency
that provides low-interest student loans to middle-class families. With the
bill at his desk, Matt Blunt now has an important decision to make.
Unfortunately, it sounds like
Matt Blunt is planning on signing this misguided bill into law later this
week, putting politics over the needs of Missouri's students and
working families. Make no mistake -- this bill does NOTHING
to bring down the rising costs of college tuition in Missouri.
Recently, Jay Nixon called on
Missourians to voice their opposition to this disastrous bill. If you have
not done so already, click here to
tell Matt Blunt what you think --
before Blunt signs the bill into law later this week!
Matt Blunt:
"Probably the Most Vulnerable Incumbent Up for Reelection Next
Year"
Recently, the Rothenberg
Political Report -- a key national political
publication -- called our very own Matt Blunt "probably the most
vulnerable incumbent up for reelection next year." The report, which
is read closely by national political reporters, ranked the Missouri
governor's race as the most competitive in the nation in 2008.
While Matt Blunt's
unpopularity may now be generating national news, it comes as no surprise
to the thousands of Missourians who have been left behind by his failed
policies.
