For Immediate Release: March 10, 2010 Contact: Ryan Hobart (573) 636-5241 Ext. 125 Congressman Blunt's Wednesday to do list: Rake in More Insurance Lobbyist Money after Bashing Health Insurance Reform in DC Jefferson City – Congressman Roy Blunt will rake in the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyist dough on the same day that he is joining Senator Kit Bond on a media conference call to bash health insurance reform. According to the Kansas City Star, Blunt is having a fundraiser in DC with some of his many insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyist supporters today: “There won’t be any moss growing on Rep. Roy Blunt’s campaign wallet on Wednesday…The leading Republican contender in the Missouri Senate contest will be feted at the offices of DC Navigators, a lobbying and communications firm whose clients include the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.” (Kansas City Star, 3/9/10) Coincidentally, this will be only hours after he joins Senator Kit Bond on a Conference call to bash efforts working towards health insurance reform: “A release featuring the logo and a joint header ("Congressman Roy Blunt, Senator Kit Bond") announced that the duo will hold a joint press conference call Wednesday morning on President Barack Obama's health-care plan, hours before the president delivers a speech on the subject at St. Charles High School.” (St. Louis Beacon, 3/09/10) "The health insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyists, desperate to preserve the status quo and their profits, will be lining up today to pay Congressman Blunt for making their case against reform," said Missouri Democratic Party Communications Director Ryan Hobart. "The only way to end the stranglehold lobbyists and special interests have on Washington is by sending their protectors like Congressman Blunt packing." According to the Sunlight Foundation, Blunt has lobbyist fundraisers scheduled over the next two weeks with firms that represent insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, the transportation industry, hedge funds, the American Bankers Association, the American Insurance Association and many others.
