No Jobs for Missouri's Future:

Congressman Blunt Opposes Bi-Partisan

Job Creation Bill

Bill Supported by Kit Bond and Other Senate Republicans, Opposed by Roy Blunt

Jefferson City - Today the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved the HIRE Act by a vote of 70-28. The HIRE act is a commonsense job creation package that will create and save thousands of jobs across Missouri and provide tax cuts for small businesses, but Congressman Roy Blunt continues to stand against this bi-partisan job creation bill.

Congressman Blunt's anti-jobs, pro-tax position comes on the heels of his so-called "Jobs for Missouri's Future" bus tour, and conflicts with Missouri Senator Kit Bond, who joined several Republicans, like newly-minted Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, in supporting the bi-partisan jobs bill that will help put Missourians back to work.

In fact, when talking about the bill, Senator Bond said the bill will protect jobs: "This bill will help restore funding to Missouri and states across the nation that would have lost critical transportation projects and thousands of jobs.” (KC Star, 2/23/10)

But Congressman Blunt said that he couldn’t support the proposal because the bill wasn’t big enough. He said he wanted a “broader” bill with more spending: "That would have been a day to hold out for the broader bill that Harry Reid had agreed to." (St. Louis Beacon, 2/23/10)

In response to Congressman Blunt's opposition to the jobs bill, Missouri Democratic Party Communications Director Ryan Hobart released the following statement:

"After touring the state to talk about job creation, Congressman Blunt has chosen to turn his back on Missourians who are out of work by opposing a bi-partisan job creation bill. While Blunt was in Congressional leadership in Washington, catering to the needs of lobbyists and special interests, unemployment in Missouri shot up to nearly 10 percent. By opposing a bi-partisan job creation bill, it's clear the only job Congressman Blunt really cares about is his own."

Congressman Blunt has drawn eight opponents so far in the Missouri primary for U.S. Senate, another indication that even Republicans are tired of his DC Doublespeak.
