For Immediate Release: January 7, 2010 Contact: Ryan Hobart (573) 636-5241 Ext. 125 No Tea For Congressman Blunt? Tea Party Activists Dump Blunt as He Shows More Hypocrisy on Spending Hypocrisy just another example of same old Washington insider politics Jefferson City, Mo – In a morning radio interview on the popular radio show “Allman in the Morning” Congressman Roy Blunt continued his Washington insider double talk stating that he supports the stimulus package passed by Congress, but voted against it saying, “This is money that had already been appropriated, that I voted against for the stimulus package, but I didn’t mind the stimulus package trying to stimulate the economy a little bit…” The statement is the latest example of Congressman Blunt trying to have everything both ways. “Whether it is voting against homeland security funding while claiming he is for it, or voting for a Wall Street bailout and then saying he is against it, or voting against H1N1 funding before he was for it, Congressman Blunt’s hypocrisy shows how out of touch he is with Missouri families,” said Missouri Democratic Party Communications Director Ryan Hobart. “Missourians don’t want Washington double talk, they want answers to the challenges they are facing and Congressman Blunt’s Washington hypocrisy is proof positive that he is only interested in himself.” Blunt’s double speak might even be getting to conservatives. For instance, earlier this week, without explanation, Congressman Blunt was dropped from the program of a Tea Party Patriot Rally in Poplar Bluff scheduled for this Saturday. (www.patriotrally.net) There have been many instances of questionable votes. In fact, just last week Congressman Blunt was exposed for voting against a crucial homeland security bill that included funds for airport security [HR 2892, Vote #450, 6/24/09] and then failing to show for a final vote on the bill this past October. [HR 2892, Vote #784, 10/15/09; Kansas City Star, 12/28/09] In October, Congressman Roy Blunt issued a statement of “outrage” regarding America’s preparedness to combat the H1N1 flu virus and politicizing a public health issue that concerns the safety of millions of Americans. Blunt’s statement failed to mention that he voted against investing $7.65 billion to help the government fight the current H1N1 outbreak and to allow for further pandemic flu preparedness and response capacity. [Vote 348, 6/16/09]. Congressman Blunt is running against State Senator Chuck Purgason and Kansas City auto consultant Mark Memoly in the August 2010 primary for the Republican nomination for US Senate. -- 30 --
