Who’s Most Thankful for Congresswoman
Jo Ann Emerson at Thanksgiving?
Wall Street, Big Corporations, and fellow GOPers have a lot to thank Emerson for this year
Jefferson City, MO – Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the good tidings of the past year, as well as the hopes for the upcoming one. Many people have Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson to thank for their good fortune, and they hope for more of her “assistance” in the year to come. Among them are:
- Wall Street: Wall Street is very thankful for all they have received from Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson. Not only did she approve the $700 billion bailout of the financial sector, she voted against curbing excessive Wall Street compensation. With Wall Street bonuses projected to increase 40% this year over 2008, Wall Street loves having a friend like Jo Ann Emerson in Congress. (2008 H.R. 1424, 2009 H.R. 3269, 2009 H.R. 1644)
- Big Corporations: Heads of big corporations can eat their turkey in peace, knowing that former insurance lobbyist Jo Ann Emerson won’t be rocking the boat anytime soon. Congresswoman Emerson voted against giving shareholders even a nonbinding vote on executive compensation, and voted against giving employees paid parental leave. No wonder special interest groups have given the Congresswoman millions - she knows how to return the favor. (2009 H.R. 3269, 2009 H.R. 626)
- Her fellow Republicans: Republicans all over the country are hoping that Emerson will be throwing her money around again this election cycle. So-called moderate Jo Ann Emerson has been a cash cow for the Republican Party, passing on hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to Republican candidates nationwide, from Roy Blunt to Rudy Giuliani and the National Republican Congressional Committee. (FEC Reports)
As the 20% of Southeastern Missouri that lives under the poverty line wonders where their Thanksgiving meal will come from, Wall Street and big corporations can rest easy knowing that Congresswoman Emerson is looking out for them.
