Tea-Party Favorite Chuck Purgason and Political Newcomer Mark Memoly Are Expected to Demand a Fair Primary for GOP Voters Jefferson City, MO - With ABC News reporting yesterday that National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn pledged that the NRSC won't spend money in contested Republican primaries to "ease some of the anger being directed at the party establishment," today many are wondering how serious Cornyn was in making this pledge. In Missouri, Congressman Roy Blunt, Senator Chuck Purgason and Kansas City auto consultant Mark Memoly are competing in the August 2010 primary for the Republican nomination for US Senate. Just a few months ago, there was wide speculation and hand wringing http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=C59256DC-18FE-70B2-A84B68423D744432 over whether the establishment candidate, Congressman Roy Blunt, was too much of a Washington insider to be an effective nominee for the Republicans as he faced primary scares from multiple potential candidates. But Congressman Blunt flexed his Washington insider muscles and connections, forcing out at least two of those potential challengers Sarah Steelman and Tom Schweich. The NRSCs Chair John Cornyn says they wont be spending money to fend off Republican primaries, and if they meant what they said, Congressman Blunt will return the $5,000 he has gotten from Cornyn, said Brian Zuzenak, Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party. But Congressman Blunt is the establishment candidate hand-picked by the Washington insiders, so if I were Chuck Purgason or Mark Memoly or a tea partier, I wouldnt hold my breath. NRSC Chair John Cornyn has already contributed $5,000 to Blunt. In June 2009, John Cornyns leadership PAC, ALAMO PAC, gave $5,000 to Roy Blunt. [FEC.gov] --30--
