For Immediate Release: October 28, 2009 Contact: Ryan Hobart (573) 636-5241 Ext. 125 Blunt Politicizes Public Health Safety, Ignores the Fact That He Was Against Preparedness Before He Was For It Voted against $7 billion in funding to invest in H1N1 preparedness and response efforts, but now is “outraged” that we’re not prepared enough Jefferson City, MO – Today Congressman Roy Blunt issued a statement of “outrage” regarding America’s preparedness to combat the H1N1 flu virus and politicizing a public health issue that concerns the safety of millions of Americans. Blunt’s “outrage” didn’t include that he voted against this past year’s Supplemental Appropriations Bill, which invested $7.65 billion to help the government fight the current H1N1 outbreak and to allow for further pandemic flu preparedness and response capacity. [Vote 348, 6/16/09]. “Congressman Blunt has turned a public safety issue into a political football and once again he’s on the attack with no real solutions of his own,” said Brian Zuzenak, Executive Director of the Missouri Democratic Party. “This is the same Washington Insider politics that Missourians have had enough of – the real outrage is that Congressman Blunt voted against funding to fight H1N1 and prepare the public, and then has the nerve to act outraged at preparedness efforts.” --30--
