Despite months of promises, Blunt content protecting the status quo Jefferson City, Mo. - Congressman Roy Blunt has been the leader of the Republican “Health Care Solutions” group since its launch in early February, but he has failed to produce a detailed proposal. Now, even his fellow House Republicans are becoming frustrated. Despite multiple promises to provide legislation, including statements made on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressmen Blunt has yet to provide a health insurance reform bill. According to The Hill newspaper, Republicans are starting to get frustrated with the Republican leadership and their refusal to put forward a health care plan. To date, the only details released by the Republican group led by Congressman Blunt consist of 3.5 pages worth of bullet points: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/GOPHealthPlan_061709.pdf In fact, Congressman Blunt is convinced they don’t need to have a comprehensive Republican plan: “Prior to the August recess, Rep. Roy Blunt (Mo.) the head of the GOP Healthcare Solutions Group, admitted that his party didn’t need to offer a unified plan, noting that Democrats were taking so much heat for the proposals moving through the lower chamber at that time.” (The Hill 10/27/09) “As the leader of the self-proclaimed ‘Republican Health Care Solutions Group’, Congressman Blunt has not produced the solutions and proposals he guaranteed to the people of Missouri,” said Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Brian Zuzenak. “Congressmen Blunt is standing on the side lines, protecting the Washington insiders, lobbyists and industries that have funded his campaigns. Unfortunately, these are the kinds of broken promises we have come to expect during Congressman Blunt’s time in Washington.” At a press conference in June, Blunt guaranteed he would provide a better plan than Democrats in Congress. He said: “I guarantee you we will provide you with a bill that costs less and provides better care for the American people.” (Politico 6/17/09) According to www.opensecrets.org, Roy Blunt has received $567,532 from insurance companies alone during his time in congress. Additionally, he has received $871,950 from health professionals during his career. Congressman Blunt is the only candidate for US Senate who is currently in Congress and will have a vote on health insurance reform. Congressman Blunt faces State Senator Chuck Purgason and Kansas City auto consultant Mark Memoly in the August 2010 primary for the Republican nominee for US Senate. --30--
