For Immediate Release: October 8, 2009 Contact: Ryan Hobart (573) 636-5241 Ext. 125 Blunt, Graves, Akin, Emerson Choose Politics over Voting in Favor of Funding for our Troops GOP Congressional Delegation Splits to Vote against Troop Funding Jefferson City, Mo – Today, Roy Blunt, Todd Akin, Jo Ann Emerson and Sam Graves chose politics over principle when they voted against this year’s National Defense Authorization Bill – a bill that includes key funding for America’s military. Missouri Republican Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer and 43 other Republicans voted for the legislation that sets national defense priorities. In the past, Congressman Blunt and Republican leaders criticized Democrats for similar actions. In 2007, Blunt expressed impatience with Democrats over a defense spending bill. At the time, Congressman Blunt criticized Democrats for what he claimed were possible attempts to further “delay the delivery of these vital funds for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.” (Washington Times 3/6/07) “Congressman Blunt and other Missouri Republicans have obviously decided to put politics ahead of our troops,” said Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Brian Zuzenak. “This is a bipartisan bill that makes sure our men and women have what they need to keep our country safe – our troops and Missourians deserve better than the same old Washington party politics.” --30--
