The Old Gang Comes to Town:  Gingrich, Bush family host Insider gathering for Congressman Blunt

Washington fat-cats come to Missouri for $100,400 Photo Op with Newt and Roy

Jefferson City, Mo – Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich will be in Missouri tonight to support his ol’ pal Congressman Roy Blunt’s run for United States Senate.

Congressman Blunt has taken time away from his hefty schedule of Washington fundraisers with corporate special interest lobbyists for this St. Louis affair.  The event even includes a $100,400 private reception and photo op at the mansion of a local Republican. In case you are wondering – in contrast to the amount that corporate special interest donors will drop for one night with the consummate Washington insiders – $100,400 can also pay for:

·          7 years worth of health insurance for an average family.  (The average annual cost of job-based family health insurance was $13,375 in 2009, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.)

·         1,000 seniors’ Medicare premiums this month. (The standard Medicare Part B monthly premium is $96.40 in 2009, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services).

“Congressman Blunt is trying to bring his corrupt culture of Washington corporate lobbyists that have long helped pad his campaign coffers to Missouri,” said Brian Zuzenak.“When even Tom DeLay says that you are out of touch and not who people need to lead, you have been in Washington too long.”

The event comes on the heels of a rough week for Congressman Blunt.  Earlier this week, Tom DeLay, who left Congress after being disgraced by super-lobbyist and convicted felon Jack Abramoff, exited the “Dancing With the Stars” dance floor to rip on the sorry state of the Republican Party.  Not only did he say to Politics Daily: "Republicans are leaderless…” but he also had this comment, from the article:

So who does DeLay see as the GOP's up-and-comers? "No one," he replied in exasperation. "It's all the same old guys who were in leadership with me, and those old guys aren't the leaders the party needs."

Congressman DeLay is not scheduled to be at the event tonight with the “same old guys who were in leadership with [him]” (Congressmen Blunt and Gingrich).
